inspo, currently

Hi friends. A weekly or bi-monthly newsletter moment? Keeping it flex on the frequency 😂 She'll be simple. A cute little breakdown of things that are inspiring me currently, what's coming next, and what's happening in the studio and life. I say currently because my interests change swiftly and often as the true MG I am (if you don't know about human design go dive in). Right now what feels inspiring to me is manifesting into the artwork I am creating but who knows, in a few months this could be about drumming and canning pickles.

Ok enjoy 💕

.01 life

These are not pictures of my life! 😂 But omg give me this head piece! INSPO! And if you haven't been following the absolute to DIE for looks at all the Dune 2 red carpet (OR SAND?!) premieres, do yourself a favor and give it a goog. you won't be disappointed. INSPO times a mill 😵

If you know me, you know I'm a huge sci-fi nerd. Dune being one of my most favorite books of all time, and honestly the 1984 movie was iconic. That movie gets a lot of hate but for me just a big big delightful dose of nostalgia. My first tattoo is of a famous quote from the book, circa 2014?! And ask me about the time I didn't know who Oscar Isaac was and I was alone in a room with him in front of an AI camera and he saw my tattoo and asked me about Dune. This is a TRUE STORY WHAT IS LIFE?! That was right before they announced casting for these remakes. When I found out after the fact I died lol. Oscar if you remember this, let's talk.

So I guess you could say I've been excited about these movies. When I heard they were remaking them I followed along to know who what where when, all the things. And I have not been disappointed. Something that is very inspiring to me is the QUALITY seeping out of these movies and how director Denis Villeneuve talks about always referring back to the book (A HUGE GREEN FLAG for fans of the book obvi), and how he made them not for the many die hards out there, but for his TEENAGE SELF who was the biggest fan and would be the harshest critic he knew. INSERT TEARS. INNER CHILD HEALED. INSPO! Watch this notes on a scene from the first film where he touches on all this and breaks down the iconic Gom Jabbar scene. The attention to detail! SO inspiring!

I just saw it last night with my good friend Mayte (who happens to be featured in this weeks recs below!). Currently still in my popcorn hangover as I write (ok delicious chemicals!)...and wow wow it's so beautiful I can't think of anything else. Every element involved working at the top of their craft...actors, costumes, sound, editing, casting, LIGHTING. There was one scene I gasped at the lighting who does that. The whole thing was honestly stunning. Highly recommend. I could keep going but this isn't a Dune newsletter...OR IS IT

.02 in the studio

small paper studies in the studio
artwork packing and shipping process

some small paper mark making studies strewn about on the floor 😂 thinking about matting these and putting up on the site soon.

And let me tell you packaging a canvas painting is no joke. This second photo is a list of all the steps involved that I have to reference EACH time I package something up. When I first started it honestly took FOREVER and I would forget steps all the time lol. Now I have a groove with a little help from this 9 STEP guide 😂 but it is still a feat, esp for larger pieces. I no longer offer stretched canvas shipping on pieces over 36x48. Instead, you purchase the piece at a discounted price because you will get the canvas rolled in a tube, and then you can bring it to your local framer to be stretched for you. Examples of these bigger works in section .06!

Soul Skin Family Portrait! If you have not yet seen my Collab + The Light Seer take a look here. We started with Soul Skin Self Portraits which are stunning and so lovely to create, and this is the second commission of a family portrait. I love it. Last looks on this babe before being packaged this week (with above process) and on it's way to it's home.

.03 color study

color swatches hanging on a wall next to a blank canvas

Prior to starting and post color swatching for the family portrait. Not something I always do, but with these pieces the colors are very specific so I often do this first. I write the formula on the card and keep them for future use so I can always go back and make the same color.

.04 what's coming up?

stay tuned next week for a cute sale on the site!

MORBID Podcast

I love this podcast. If you're a spooky girlie like me you might like it too. They do mostly true crime which is always a good listen, but my fave eps are the ones leaning supernatural spooktacular, and the listener tales are delightful as well.
